Backcountry Concepts was founded in 1989, not based on a preconceived business plan but on a need which was coming about due to my present position as a Professional Saltwater Fishing Guide.

As a full time fishing guide my fishing hours consisted of working the same hours that all the marinas and boat dealers worked. When I needed repairs it would need to be accomplished overnight. I often found myself with a flashlight and tools in hand, leaning into the bowels of my skiff.

I needed a shop where I could keep my boat and tools and a parts supply. I acquired a building in which to make the proper repairs and tinker on projects at night and on bad weather days, which led us to our present location.

Specially designed and invented by Capt. Earl Waters in 1988, his Air Switching System is considered the standard in the industry, offering great performance and reliability.
